Artist Statement

The center of my practice focuses on reapplying blacksmithing techniques to jewellery. Looking to the materials I choose as metaphors for past experiences. Occasionally thoughts and feelings need to be forged out and brought to the surface, sometimes they remain twisted in the recesses of days long gone. The pieces therefore retain and give form to memories. They become something tangible that can be held onto physically being more important as I find my recollections fading faster than expected. I am drawn to designing with metal primarily because frequently recreating an art object is possible. Reworking, adding, subtracting, or rethinking materials mimic the diversity of situations in life. I find metal to be strong but forgiving with the occasional bout of brittleness and melting for good measure.
